小丑进场，一首旋律优美的歌，有着缅怀往事般优柔的旋律，获得格莱美奖年度最佳歌曲。细细体会歌词，不禁令人叹息与伤怀。这首歌乃出自斯蒂芬．桑代姆（Stephen Sondheim)于1973年创作的百老汇音乐剧《小夜曲（A Little Night Music)》。
（注：此曲经过多人演绎，如Julie Andrews 、Glenn Close 、Vivian Blaine、Barbra Streisand 、Judy Collins等，其中演绎最为出色的一个是传奇歌手Barbra Streisan芭芭拉史翠珊版本，或许这和歌手自身经历有关）

《小夜曲》于1973年2月25日在百老汇舒伯特剧院推出，上演了600场，然后展开全美各地的巡回公演，后来又登上伦敦的舞台。多年以来，这出戏不断地被拿出来重新上演。《Send in the Clowns》是本剧最受欢迎的名曲，在本剧中，这首歌出现于第二幕，《Send in the clowns。小丑进场》,剧情是说：一个在舞台上颠倒众生的红伶，眼看昔日被她玩弄於股掌间的男士们，个个均安身成家，好面子的她不信自己魅力已失，遂邀请众伉俪到她的乡间别墅度假。当她向老情人提出重续前缘时被拒，于是自嘲而又伤感地唱出了这首歌，发人深省、令人动容。
